Neutralising antibodies defend cells from the covid-19 virus by neutralising the effect of the virus. The presence of neutralising antibodies (NAbs) is a good indicator of protective immunity to COVID infections. Many Covid-19 Antibody tests do not differentiate between neutralising and non-neutralising antibodies. This type of antibody blocks the virus from connecting with host cells by binding to the virus surface antigen. The majority of Covid-19 neutralising antibodies attach to the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of spike proteins and block the binding of RBD and the human cell ACE2 receptors. This neutralising antibody test can be used to identify previous COVID infection or understand vaccine effectiveness or degree of protection after COVID vaccination or infection.
